The Haucke Funeral Home had been serving Algoma residents and area community community members since its establishment in the 1890s. Bill Schinderle began his career as a funeral director in Stockbridge, WI when he purchased the Schumacher Furniture Store and Funeral Home in 1953.
On, January 1, 1967, Bill purchased the Haucke Funeral Home in Algoma, and in June of 1967, Bill’s wife Jan and their four children, Steve, Denis, Laurie and Midge, moved to Algoma.
In 1971, Bill bought five acres of land west of Algoma on Highway 54 and built their new funeral home which is their current location today.
In 1978, Bill’s daughter, Laurie, chose to become a funeral director as her career. Laurie finished her schooling and graduated from Milwaukee Area Technical College in 1982. In 1992, Laurie took over the business operations when Bill decided to semi-retire.
On October 15, 2021, Todd and Renee (Robillard) Huehns, of Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. in Sturgeon Bay, purchased the funeral home from Laurie, with Laurie remaining as a full-time funeral director. Todd and Renee's sons, Erik and Brock, are 5th generation-funeral directors, and Brock's wife, Amanda, also joined the staff as a funeral director.
