Ione Anderegg Obituary

Ione Lorraine Anderegg, 97, a longtime pillar of the Algoma community, passed away on January 1, 2026. Born on June 24, 1928, in Mayville, WI, to Al and Edna (Bruder) Rohr, Ione moved to Algoma in 1941. She was a proud graduate of Algoma High School and spent the following eight decades building a life defined by family, service, and creativity.

Ione’s faith and her love of music were major cornerstones of her life. A devoted member of the Algoma United Methodist Church, she lent her voice to the church choir for over 60 years and served on numerous committees. Her hands were rarely still; as a member of the “Sweater Makers,” she helped to hand-knit well over 500 sweaters for the “Knit for Kids” program, sending warmth to children in need across the globe.

She was a woman of diverse interests and sharp intellect. After the passing of her husband, Harold, in 1986, Ione became a founding member and past president of the Algoma Money Bags Investment Club, where she enjoyed the challenges of the stock market alongside her friends. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star (Crescent Beach Chapter 169) and a member of the Kewaunee-Algoma Chapter 229. An avid traveler, Ione delighted in exploring the world with her grandson, Jeffrey, and she relished attending the symphony regularly.

Above all, Ione was the heart of her family. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Greg) Tarnoff, Alycia (Ryan) Clutterbuck, and Jenny Anderegg; her children-in-law, Howard Tarnoff and Debbie Anderegg; and her beloved great-grandchildren, who called her “GG,” Kendall, Morgan, London, and Carter Clutterbuck.

The family wishes to extend their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to Ione’s devoted caregiver, Sherri Borboa, for her tireless, around-the-clock care, love, and devotion over the last six years of Ione’s life.

Ione was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Anderegg; her children, Wanda Tarnoff, Peggy Seiler, and Bradley Anderegg; her grandson, Jon Seiler; and her siblings, Richard “Bud” and Vernon “Tim” Rohr.

A private burial service was held at Evergreen Cemetery in Algoma. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

The Schinderle Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements for Ione and  her family.
